A root canal is a treatment used to save your tooth even when it is badly decayed or infected. The procedure allows your tooth to be saved rather than having it removed. During the root canal procedure, the pulp, which is the root of the tooth, is cleaned and the canal is filled to prevent recontamination of the tooth. A root canal treated tooth will often need a crown as a final restoration.
